How to Get Better at Betting on MMA

Betting on MMA is a risk like any other sport, but there are certain things you can do to increase your odds of winning. While some of these methods might seem simple or obvious, skipping them can put you at a disadvantage. You won't be able to win every bet, but if you do the following, the odds of winning will start to shift in your favor.

Watch as Often as Possible

The more MMA you watch, the better idea you will have of what it takes to win. You will begin to notice small details that you didn't see before. Eventually, you will be able to place confident bets without much research because you will already know a lot about the fighters and how they match up against one another.

Somebody who regularly watches MMA will be much better at predicting who will be victorious in any matchup than someone who simply relies on statistics.

Pay Attention to Rankings and Betting Odds

MMA rankings are a good place to start if you don't know much about a fighter. When a fight is lined up and betting odds are released, you can use that information to figure out who will likely win. However, famous fighters and fighters on multi-fight winning streaks are usually betting favorites, but they're not always more likely to win.

Consider Injuries

Some injuries that fighters suffer from can negatively affect their fighting ability for the rest of their career. They'll likely never be able to compete to their full potential again. When you see this happen, don't let their legacy cloud your judgment as it will for many others, and be realistic when you bet on their future fights.

While some fighters can fully recover from and even improve after these injuries, they typically mean a fighter will be on the decline performance-wise going forward:

  • Serious concussions

  • Bad knee injuries

  • A detached retina

  • Shattered bones

  • Spinal injuries

Focus on the Strengths and Weaknesses of Each Fighter

Styles matter a lot in MMA bouts. Relying too much on rankings and records can be detrimental. You should pay attention to the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters who will be competing before making your bet.

Some fighters don't do well against opponents with particular strengths. For example, there could be a fighter who knocks out almost everyone they face, but they lose every time they face a strong wrestler. Understanding these nuances will help you succeed when making your MMA picks
